Zaveion Okoh had a career day on Friday posting a team high 27 points and connecting on five three pointers in a win over the Lufkin Panthers at the Jasper Venture Games at Whitehouse. He also posted 7 rebounds and six steals. Through two games, Okoh has led the Tigers in scoring averaging 25 points per game in the process. With the wins, the Tigers moved up one spot in the state rankings to #14.
Mount Pleasant opened the game on fire from three-point range draining five shots from behind the arc in the quarter to take an early 21-14 lead. Okoh, Payton Chism, and Devin Williams contributed to the long-range onslaught. The second quarter saw the Tigers go cold however, as Lufkin fought back and took a 29-27 lead into the locker room at the half. Mount Pleasant would regroup and ramp up their defense in the next two quarters outscoring the Panthers 37-24 and forcing 22 turnovers. The Tigers went 14 for 18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Chism was the only other player in double figures for the Tigers with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Other scorers were Jakybrein Hines 9 points, Brock Cooper 6 points, Devin Williams 5 points, and Eliyah Tagg 2 points.
Mount Pleasant (2-0) will travel to Royse City (1-2) on Tuesday for a non-district matchup with the Bulldogs. JV will tip-off at 5:00 PM and the Varsity will play at 6:15 PM. All tickets must be purchased online through the Royse City ISD website.
