MPHS Tiger Powerlifters Qualify for State
The MPHS Tiger Powerlifters placed 2nd as a team at the Regional Powerlifting meet at Rusk High School on Saturday, March 7, with nine lifters earning medals and seven qualifying for the state meet. Lifters who hit their respective State Qualifying Total or who placed in the top two in their weight class advanced to the State meet.
State qualifiers include senior Bruno Deleon and junior Abraham Buenrostro who were Regional Champions, placing 1st in their respective weight classes. Senior David Neal placed 2nd, senior Daniel Castillo with sophomores Jose Gonzalez and Jesus Mata were 3rd, and junior Isaiah Shepherd placed 4th in their respective weight classes to round out the state qualifiers.
Two other Tigers earned medals including sophomore Caleb Lopez placing 3rd and senior Tony Grant in 4th place. Additional regional qualifiers included seniors Humberto Damian, Edward Moya, Alex Perez, and Bryson Taylor, junior Garrett Brown, and freshman Christian Martinez.
The State meet is March 27-28 in Abilene. Tiger Powerlifting is coached by Blake Lodes.
