Several Mount Pleasant High School Academic UIL teams competed in meets at Rains and North Lamar High Schools last weekend and brought home medals.

The Current Events and Spelling teams traveled to Rains and both teams brought home 1st place medals. In Current Events, Enrique Martinez took 1st place and Javi Martinez took 2nd place. In the Spelling contest, Rocio Hernandez placed 1st, Annie Le placed 2nd, Mari Vargas earned 4th, Itzel Vargas took 5th and Ilse Vargas placed 6th.

The Math/Science teams competed in the Math/Science Meet at North Lamar and placed 2nd in Sweepstakes behind Garland High School. The MPHS team took 1st place in Calculator Applications with 630 points (to Garland’s 602), Math with 772 (to Garland’s 548) and Science with 384 points (to Garland’s 258). Garland outscored in MPHS Number Sense which gave them the 1st place Sweepstakes Award.

The Math/Science teams compete next at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association State Meet in San Antonio during Spring Break.

The Cross-Examination Team will be at the CX State Meet in Austin also during Spring Break.

The District Meet is at Hallsville High School March 23-24.
