Mount Pleasant High School student, Carl “Tripp” Hinton, received a surprise visit from H-E-B during his English class Friday afternoon.

Hinton received a “big check,” for a $2,000 scholarship, along with an assortment of sweets from H-E-B to share with his classmates.

The scholarship program is a partnership between H-E-B and the University Interscholastic League. 15 scholarships worth $2,000 each are being awarded to high schol students across Texas competing in UIL events for their outstanding achievements in community service.

“H-E-B, in parternship with the UIL, recognizes Tripp Hinton for his selfless commitment to serve his community,” said Mabrie Jackson, director of public affairs for H-E-B. “Tripp’s excellent academic work ethic, determination, and spirit of giving provide a strong foundation for his future success.”

Finalists were chosen from more than 450 applications through a rubric based on grades, community service, volunteerism, and an essay question.
