The Mount Pleasant High School Speech and Debate Team traveled to North Lamar last weekend for a Meet and brought home the 2nd place overall trophy. The school that beat them? Lindale High School, last year’s Speech Team State Champions.
Eleven students brought home trophies from the meet. Four of them, Audrey Courreges, Tripp Hinton, Jaquacy Minter and Ryan Sharp, placed in two events.
Winners included:
Dani Bernal – 1st in Congressional Debate
Ryan Sharp – 1st in Prose Interpretation
and with Taryn Thurman – 4th place in Novice Policy Debate
Anthony Preciado – 2nd in Congressional Debate
Tripp Hinton – 2nd in Humorous Interpretation and 5th in Prose Interpretation
Jaquacy Minter – 3rd in Poetry Interpretation and 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation
Audrey Courreges – 4th in Persuasive Speaking
and with Connelly Cowan 4th Place in Policy Debate
Maritza Zambrano – 4th in Congressional Debate
Devon Reynolds – 5th in Lincoln Douglas Debate
Caroline Rose – 6th in Congressional Debate
“We congratulate these students on their success at this meet,” said MPISD Director of Communications Dr. Judi Saxton. “We look forward to what they will achieve throughout the rest of this school year.”
