Two Mount Pleasant High School Jazz Bands competed in the Music in the Park contest on Saturday, May 1 at Midlothian High School. Jazz Band I played “Feeling Good” by Roger Holmes and “Days of Wine and Roses” by Dave Barduhn. Jazz Band II played “Swing Thing” by Mike Story and “Groovin’ Kat” by Victor Lopez.

At the awards ceremony at Six Flags, Jazz Band I placed 1st in the Jazz Band category and were named Best Overall in the entire competition. Jazz Band II was just behind placing 2nd. And senior Emi Hobbs was chosen as the Outstanding Soloist on vocals out of all competitors in the entire competition.

Members of Jazz Band I include Jayden Adame, Pedro Castillo, Julian Chancellor, Brayden Chavez, Dylan Cigarroa, Bruno Deleon, Emileigh Hobbs, Isaac Jetton, Jesus Mata, Makayla Mather, Jiriah McNary, Edward Moya, Zachary Newman, Jose Olivares, Phillip Padilla, Alfredo Santillan, Evelyn Whisenhunt, and Austin Whisenhunt.

Members of Jazz Band II are Jediah Alvarez, Ethan Carrillo, Sebastian Contreras, Jazmin Diaz-Patino, Bryan Garcia, Elvis Garcia, Elias Garcia Oliva, Nancy Gil, Anthony Gonzalez, Ana’liece Guerrero, Aiden Lane, Jose Lucio, Cesar Netro, Rosali Nino, Fernando Pina, Christian Rojas, Aaron Waldrep, and Dax Weatherly.

The MPHS Jazz Bands are directed by Agustin Garcia and Brian Bass.
