Students in Fashion Design II and III at Mount Pleasant High School kicked off the school year with a creative design challenge that transformed ordinary materials into extraordinary fashion. Using colorful trash bags as their primary material, students designed and constructed unique garments on dress form mannequins, showcasing their creativity, problem-solving skills, and fashion design techniques. The project encouraged students to think beyond traditional fabrics and explore innovative ways to create wearable art.

The challenge extended beyond garment construction. Students also designed professional window displays to showcase their creations and developed advertising campaigns to market their designs. By combining fashion design, visual merchandising, and marketing skills, students gained valuable hands-on experience that mirrors real-world careers in the fashion industry.

Students in the MPHS Fashion Design program learn how to use a sewing machine, hand stitching, how to read a pattern, fashion illustration, garment construction, and pattern manipulation. Fashion Design I covers the basics with Fashion Design II and III building upon those skills. Fashion Design II and III students are planning the third annual fashion show of their creations for the end of this year. The MPHS Fashion Design program is under the guidance of Margaret Bradley.
