The Mount Pleasant swim team competed in the District 15-5A Swim Meet on Saturday held at the Texarkana Aquatic Center and had multiple swimmers advance in both individual and relay events. Overall, the girls’ team finished in 4th and the boys’ team finished in 5th .

The top six finishers in each event would move on to the next round. Sophie Greco qualified for regionals for the third straight year by placing 2nd in the 100-meter backstroke and 3rd in the 50-meter free style. Freshman Ava Fite also qualified by placing 4th in the 100-meter breaststroke.

All four relay teams for the Tigers qualified with the 200-meter medley team of Reese Ball, Ava Fite, Sophie Greco, and Kate Ball placing 3rd. The 200-meter free relay team of the Ball sisters, Joseline Hernandez, and Greco also placed 3rd to advance to the next round. On the boys’ side, the 200-meter medley team of Eli Rider, Jack Welborn, Alessandro Greco, and Camdon Johnson finished 5th and the same group also placed 4th in the 200-meter free relay.

Johnson also made history as Mount Pleasant’s first ever competitor in the 1-meter dive competition, finishing 3rd overall.

The Region 4-5A swim meet will be held at New Caney ISD Natatorium on February 3-4.
