Mount Pleasant High School Teacher is KTEN Meteorologist
Teaching Environmental Systems came easy for Sheena Lodes since she is a part-time Meteorologist for KTEN News in Denison. She has a degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Louisiana Monroe and began her career in television meteorology. “I have been in the business since 2019,” said Lodes. “I started at a station in Monroe, LA right out of college. I quickly went from Weekend Meteorologist to Morning Meteorologist and was even offered the Chief job right before I left! I have spent countless hours tracking tornadoes, hurricanes, and even ice and snowstorms.”
But when husband, Blake, took a coaching job at Mount Pleasant High School, Lodes had to make some decisions. “I was in the middle of deciding if I wanted to stay in TV but there are no TV stations that close to MP,” she said. “As a Meteorologist, I got to go out and talk to different groups of people about weather. I would visit a lot of schools and talk to kids about how to be prepared for severe weather and do fun science experiments with them. I even helped start the Weather Academy Segment when I was working at KNOE. This was a segment where we gave lessons on different weather phenomena and then did science experiments to back up the information. When Coach Cluley mentioned to my husband there was a science position open at the school, we knew it would be a great fit! I enjoy the school setting, and the normal schedule compared to a TV schedule.”
Lodes is in her second year of teaching Environmental Systems at Mount Pleasant High School. But she also continues her TV news career as a part-time Meteorologist for KTEN News in Denison. “I just work on an as-needed basis, so typically anytime we are off for breaks or holidays with the school. I usually do a lot of filling in during the summertime.” Watch KTEN online at https://www.kten.com/weather/.
