Six Mount Pleasant High School Cheerleaders recently earned honors from the Texas Girls Coaches Association and four were selected to represent MPHS at the 2024 FCA Red River Showdown.

The Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) Spirit division recognized Hannah Anderson, Abigail Gutierrez, and Conlee Zachry as members of the Academic All-State team. The cheerleaders were nominated by head coach, Karissa Lopez, for having an overall GPA of 94 or above from grades 9-11. “I am so proud of these athletes and what they do every day in the classroom,” said Lopez. “They are ambassadors for our school and a representation of what it means to be a Mount Pleasant Tiger.”

Juniors Madison Hargrove, Addy Long, and Kit Thompson were named TGCA All-Star Alternate Cheerleaders. All Star nominees must be juniors and nominated by their coach. “It was an honor to nominate these cheerleaders for their time and dedication to our program,” said Lopez. “These cheerleaders are talented, possess leadership, and are involved in our community. Being nominated and chosen by the TGCA committee to be an alternate is an honor.”

And graduating seniors Hannah Anderson, Kennady Mayben, Johana Perales, and Allie Sloan were selected to represent Mount Pleasant in the 2024 FCA Red River Showdown. “We have had the honor to represent Mount Pleasant at this event since 2022,” said Lopez. “They will cheer for both basketball and football all-star games on May 30 and 31 in Texarkana. We are excited to cheer alongside some great cheerleaders from around Northeast Texas and meet some new friends from South Arkansas.”
