Mount Pleasant Golf Finishes Third at Sulphur Springs
The Mount Pleasant Tiger and Lady Tiger golf teams competed in their second tournament of the fall season on Monday as they traveled to Sulphur Springs Country Club. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams finished third overall with several golfers performing well individually.
The Lady Tigers posted a team score of 357 just behind Canton at 350 and host Sulphur Springs at 352. Kylee Strickland turned in a team-best 70 on her scorecard after placing first in her last tournament at Mount Pleasant. She was followed by Reese Ball’s 92, Sophie Greco at 96, and Olivia Reed at 99. Despite the third-place finish, Mount Pleasant was able to best district rivals Texas High, Longview, and Hallsville.
The Tigers also finished third overall turning in a team score of 324. Sulphur Springs took first at 319 followed by Hallsville in second at 321. Matthew Peterson (4th) led the Tigers with a 74 followed by Jacob Baker (5th) at 76, Braiden Merryman at 86, Clayton Brison at 88, Kade Strickland at 90, Alessandro Greco at 98, and Nikolas Campbell at 120.
The Tigers will compete again next Tuesday in the Pine Tree tournament held at the Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater. The Lady Tigers will have a little more time off before hitting the links again on November 1 for the Longview tournament, also at the Tempest Golf Club. The Mount Pleasant golf team is coached by Benny Blaser.
