MPHS Colorguard Officers Win Awards, Scholarships at Camp
Mount Pleasant High School Colorguard Director, Marty Newman, took his 2025-2026 officers to camp at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. from June 15-18. The camp featured fundamental training in flag, rifle, sabre, and dance.
In addition, each camper had the opportunity to audition for the Northwestern State University Colorguard, The Demon Heat. At the end of auditions, all seven MPHS Colorguard officers were selected for The Demon Heat and all seven earned $7000 scholarships with an out-of-state tuition waiver. In addition, out of about 200 campers total, Captain Esmeralda Perez was chosen as the Most Outstanding Elite Performer and Co-Captain Andrea Garcia received the overall Most Improved Dancer award.
The 2025-2026 Colorguard officers are Captain Esmeralda Perez, Co-Captains Sofia Estrada and Andrea Garcia, and Lieutenants Emily Ortiz, Valeria Bello, Aaliyah Gholston, and Karyme Sanchez.
