MPISD Clay Target Club Tigers ranked #1 and #3 in State
The Mount Pleasant ISD Clay Target Club finished their second season as members of the Texas State High School Clay Target League. MPHS competed in the skeet division with eight other teams from across the state including Harper High School, Ira High School, Lake Creek High School, Porter High School, Regents Academy, Sam Rayburn ISD, Splendora High School, and St. John Paul II Catholic High School. Team members met once per week at Clays -N- More Gun Club for 8 weeks to complete 3 practices and 5 competitions.
As a team, MPHS finished 2nd out of nine, a major improvement over last season’s 5th place finish.
Individually, MPHS claimed two of the top five individual rankings. Senior and defending state champion, Trent Milam, finished the regular season ranked #1 in the state with a season average of 24.5 out of 25. Sophomore, Lance Albin, finished ranked 3rd with a season average of 23.7 out of 25. In addition, Milam and Albin both received recognition for perfect rounds. Milam broke 25 targets straight 5 times during the season and was the only competitor in the league to also break 50 straight. Albin broke 25 targets straight 4 times during the season. Milam and Albin had more perfect rounds than anyone else in the league this season.
The team is currently gearing up for the state tournament on June 7 at the Waco Skeet and Trap Club. Team members representing MPHS at the state meet include Lance Albin, Garrett Brown, Donald Cole, George Fite, Caydon Johnson, Christian Johnson, Trent Milam, Rolston Morton, and Cooper Rider. The team is coached by Josh Blackstone.
