Record # of MPHS Band Members Advance to UIL State Competition
A record 73 members of the Mount Pleasant High School Goin’ Gold Band earned 103 first division medals at the UIL Region IV Solo and Ensemble contest on Friday, February 28 at New Boston High School. This result shattered the previous record of 58 students and 62 medals in 2023.

Twenty-six students qualified as part of two different ensembles including Adriel Bagsic, Julian Chancellor, Sebastian Contreras, Humberto Damian, Bruno DeLeon, Angel Farias, Bryan Garcia, Neftali Gonzalez, Eli Hernandez, Isaac Jetton, Monserrat Lopez, Axel Mata, Jesus Mata, Makayla Mather, Odalys Mejia, Jose Olivares, Jennifer Pena, Diana Ramirez, Kaylee Ramos, Alfredo Santillan, Isaiah Shepherd, Christopher Sorto, Maximus Tutone, Cindy Valle, and Evie Whisenhunt. Andy Carrillo qualified as part of an ensemble and as a soloist. And two of the students qualified for state as eighth graders including Emilee Martinez and Aaron Robles.
The UIL State Solo and Ensemble contest is scheduled for May 23-26 in Austin. The MPISD band program is under the direction of Dr. Theodus Luckett, Karen Luckett, AJ Garcia, Brian Bass, Christopher Richard, and Sheri Sullivan.
