MPHS Cheerleaders Attend Camp at Southern Methodist University
The Mount Pleasant High School Cheerleaders attended the National Cheer Association (NCA) cheer camp at Southern Methodist University in Dallas from May 29-June 1.
On day 2 the cheerleaders were evaluated on band chant and situational sideline where they received an excellent ribbon for the band chant and a superior ribbon for the situational sideline. The cheerleaders received the Herkie award, which was voted upon by other teams, as the team that was “most spirited”. Both the JV and Varsity squads received the spirit stick at the end of the night.
On day 3 the cheerleaders were evaluated on a game day cheer where they received a superior ribbon. The cheerleaders also received another Herkie award for being the “most spirited” team.
Sophomore, Carly Horn, was chosen as an NCA All American Cheerleader. All American nominees included Jayden Baker, Emma Berry, Khiya Bolton, Sanniyah Crabtree, Rylee Frederking, Couri Gruber, Shannon Hines, Jasani Inostros, Tenley Marshall, Asia Salters, and Sondryce Wilder. “With a team of only 13 returners and 15 new cheerleaders we could not be prouder of how we ended camp,” said coach, Karissa Lopez. “We are excited for competition season and continuing to watch this program grow and evolve.”
