MPHS Choir Members Advance to UIL State
Twenty-eight Mount Pleasant High School Choir members competed at the Regional UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at the Mount Pleasant High School Performing Arts Complex on Friday, February 3. Of those, eight earned first division ratings and seven MPHS soloists have advanced to the State contest. To qualify for the state solo and ensemble contest, a student must score a “1” on a Class 1 piece, the most difficult to memorize and perform.
MPHS state solo qualifiers include seniors Litzy Gonzalez and Cheyenne Harrah, juniors Hope Powell, Adan Sargent, Jacolby Turner, and Jacori Turner, and sophomore Kristina Tidwell. Sophomore Alivia Newman also received a division 1 on a Class 2 piece.
The state contest will be held on May 27 and 29 in Austin. The MPHS Choir is directed by Nancy Vines with accompaniment provided by Deanna Warren.
