The Mount Pleasant Tiger tennis team was a little rusty coming off a rained-out match two weeks ago versus Hallsville, but the Tigers and Lady Tigers battled admirably against an evenly matched Whitehouse squad.  Mount Pleasant and Whitehouse fought out 16 close matches with the Wildcats taking the slim victory 9-7 this past Thursday at Whitehouse.

Adan Sargent and Galilea Torres got the Tigers off on the right foot in mixed doubles taking the match 6-2.  Boys’ doubles followed up with a sweep as Donovan Santana and Jose Fuentes took their match 7-6, 7-6 and Hunter McGee and Kevin Ortiz dominated 6-1, 6-4 to give Mount Pleasant a 3-0 lead.  The girls’ doubles teams did not fare as well, losing both their matches.  Sidney Beles and Brianne Davis lost a closely contested match 3-6, 6-1, 9-11 and Annie Munoz and Isabel Garza lost their match 2-6, 1-6 to move the Wildcats closer at 3-2.

The singles matches would spell the end for the Tigers as they were only able to go 3-7 to close out the day.  Winners were Hunter McGee 8-3, Kevin Ortiz 8-2, Sidney Beles 8-4, and Isabel Garza 8-4.  Donovan Santana 4-8, Jose Fuentes 6-8, Adan Sargent 4-8, Brianne Davis 6-8, Galilea Torres 3-8, Annie Munoz 2-8, and Merlin Cardona 3-8 all came out on the short end.

The Tigers will regroup and prepare for their next home match this Thursday as they play host to Pine Tree.  Matches will begin at 3:30 PM at the William Love Tennis Complex located next to the Mount Pleasant Junior High.
