Mount Pleasant sophomore point guard Payton Chism continues to be recognized as one of the top players in the state of Texas for the class of 2023. The recent rankings posted by texasboysbasketball.com ranks Chism at #39. Players are ranked based on how well they have performed against some of the top competition this year and how well they are expected to perform. Payton, son of head coach Joey Chism, helped lead the Tigers to a school-record 33 wins last season as well as a trip to the regional tournament. He led the Tigers in scoring at 10 points per game and contributed an average of 3 assists and 2 steals per game while shooting 70% from the line and 31% from behind the arc. Chism will look to improve upon that success this season as he takes the reins of a team returning four starters from last year’s squad.
