The Mount Pleasant Speech and Debate Team competed in Regional Congressional Debate Thursday, November 3 and took three of the six top spots. Junior Dani Bernal finished 3rd, Junior Anthony Preciado finished 4th and Sophomore Maritza Zambrano finished 6th.

Sophomore Aslin Barrientos was awarded Top Presiding Officer.

By placing 3rd, Bernal earned a trip to the State Congressional Debate Tournament in January.

“This was a great showing for our team,” said Debate Coach and MPHS teacher Cody Morris. “We are a young team and to have Dani qualify for State in this event is great. She is Mount Pleasant’s first ever State Qualifier in this event.”
