Seventy-five Mt. Pleasant High School Seniors have earned the designation of Texas Scholar.  Before an audience of family members, high school and district officials and community members, the students received their medals and certificates at a special luncheon at the Civic Center Wednesday, May 18.

“It is not easy to earn the Texas Scholar designation,” explained MPISD Director of Communication Dr. Judith Saxton. “Students must complete a Distinguished high school program or a Foundational high school program with Distinguished Achievement and One Performance Acknowledgement. In addition, they must earn 8 hours of community service for each year. The community service requirement was added when these students were sophomores, so each of the 75 had to complete 24 hours. With 75 students, that means this class alone gave 1800 hours back to the Mount Pleasant community. These students have learned the importance of giving back to their community as well as the importance of academic achievement.  We congratulate them on their accomplishments.”
