MPHS Lady Tiger Powerlifters Qualify for State
Ten Lady Tiger Powerlifters qualified and competed in the Girls Regional Powerlifting at Mount Pleasant High School on Saturday, March 2, with seven lifters qualifying for the state meet. The Lady Tigers also placed 3rd as a team.
Senior Karen Hernandez was the Regional Champion, placing 1st in her weight class and qualifying for state, with a 220 squat, 115 bench, and 205 deadlift for a total of 540.
Senior Jasmine Landaverde qualified for state by placing 3rd in her weight class with a 295 squat, 155 bench, and 265 deadlift for a total of 715.
Senior Xitlaly Sanchez placed 3rd in her weight class qualifying her for the state meet. She lifted a 325 squat, 225 bench, and 275 deadlift for a total of 825.
Junior Helen Salazar placed 2nd in her weight class and qualified for state with a 310 squat, 200 bench, and 300 deadlift for a total of 810.
Junior Valerie Cassio qualified for state, placing 3rd in her weight class. Her totals were 190 squat, 105 bench, and 215 deadlift for a total of 510.
Sophomore Monse Gonzalez placed 4th in her weight class to qualify for state. Her lifts were 230 squat, 145 bench, and 265 deadlift for a total of 640.
Sophomore Linnet Cuellar rounded out the state qualifiers placing 4th in her weight class with 235 squat, 175 bench, and 280 deadlift for a total of 690.
Two other Lady Tigers placed in the top 10 in their weight classes including junior Cambria Malone in 7th place and sophomore Diana Ramirez in 8th place.
The Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State meet is March 13-17 in Edinburg. Lady Tiger Powerlifting is coached by Don Woods.
