Even with the advent of technology – computers, tablets, IPads and such – there is still a place for books. And students still like to get their own books.

The third graders in Mount Pleasant ISD elementary schools got a treat recently when they got their own Dictionaries – books they can take home and call their own – thanks to the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant.

Rotarians Robin Sharp, Danny Muskrat and Kim Ragsdale had the pleasure of handing out the dictionaries at Annie Sims Elementary. Amy Hinton, Vikki Goates and Malik Latif went to E.C. Brice Elementary School. Dr. Clint Davis, Judd Marshall and Ester Smith went to Fowler Elementary while Joseph Harwell and Hershal Kelly visited Corprew.
On each campus, the Rotarians explained what the dictionaries contained – not just words and definitions but geography and history information as well.  They explained what Rotary was and why Rotary was distributing the dictionaries. On each campus one of the Rotarians even emceed a contest for student to look information up in their new dictionaries.

“We really appreciate the Rotary Club for taking on the dictionary project,” said MPISD Director of Communication Dr. Judi Saxton. “For some of our students this is the first book they may have owned and may be one of the few books in their homes.  Some of our students don’t have access to computers in their homes so these dictionaries will give them needed reference material. Our students will be able to use these books for the remainder of this year and will be able to use them over the summer.  Thanks to the Rotary Club!”

The Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant will distribute dictionaries to all other third graders in Titus County.
