Frances Corprew Elementary School Principal Honored
On Friday, October 30, Frances Corprew Elementary School Principal, Karen Williams, was surprised with a special recognition. Grace Gee, an officer of the Booker T. Washington Descendants Alumni of Mount Pleasant, presented Williams with a beautiful bouquet in honor of National Principals Month.
Booker T. Washington served Mount Pleasant’s African American students during segregation. Established in 1926, the school provided both elementary and high school education and was an important part of the community for generations. Following the integration of Mount Pleasant schools, the final Booker T. Washington High School class graduated in 1968. Today, Frances Corprew Elementary School stands on the former school site, preserving a connection to an important chapter in Mount Pleasant’s educational history.
