Frances Corprew Elementary Students Plant Community Garden
For the third year, the National Elementary Honor Society at Frances Corprew Elementary School has been busy getting their spring community garden up and running. The students have been weeding and preparing the raised beds and have planted cabbage, onions, strawberries, and tomatoes. Soon they will also plant yellow squash, zucchini, lettuce, and they also have a blackberry bush. The students have learned how to transfer plants from their containers to the bed, how deep and how far apart to plant them, and how often and how much to water. The Mount Pleasant High School construction class recently built them a produce stand so they could display their harvested fruits and vegetables for the community.
The community garden is located at the back of Corprew Elementary and the produce is available to the community for free. Visitors are asked to come outside of school hours. The Corprew National Honor Society Advisor is Cassie George.
