The Mount Pleasant Tiger and Lady Tiger cross country teams both finished second in their first meet of the season in Greenville as they prepare to rev up for the pursuit of another district championship. The Tigers sent twelve runners into the Varsity and JV race and the Lady Tigers had seven competitors compete in the JV division.<\/p>\n

Junior Lee Davis led the way for Mount Pleasant securing a fourth-place finish in the 5k run with a time of 17:20.63. Geovanni Calderon placed 9th at 18:01.78 and Christopher Escobar finished 10th at 18:09.94 to round out the top ten. Gilberth Landaverde notched a 14th place finish at 18:17.55, Enrique Marrufo finished 16th at 18:24.48, Alex Rivera crossed the line in 29th at 19:49.48, and Axel Contreras rounded it out in 43rd with a time of 23:20.55. The second-place team finish saw the Tigers fall just short of Eustace but ahead of Sachse and Sherman.<\/p>\n

Aidyn Botello placed 6th overall in the JV division with a time of 20:00 with David Buendia placing 28th overall at 22:14. Other finishers were Oscar Otero in 45th at 23:18, Joey Dunn in 61st at 25:25, and Noah Trimm in 69th at 26:05.<\/p>\n

On the Lady Tiger side, Mount Pleasant was just behind Sherman but ahead of former district rival Sulphur Springs. Marlyne Mendez paced the Lady Tigers with a 5th place finish and time of 15:13.87 while Lizbeth Alvarez finished 7th at 15:25.16. Abigail Retana was just outside the top ten in 13th place at 15:51.62 and Karen Hernandez placed 20th with a time of 16:30.74. Other finishers were Audrie Mendoza in 28th at 17:00.68, Noelia Robles in 38th at 17:59.23, and Atalee Gonzalez in 65th at 21:51.58.<\/p>\n

Both cross country teams will have a couple of weeks to work to reduce their times before they travel to Longview on September 3 for their next meet held at LeTourneau University. The Tigers and Lady Tigers are coached by Jesus Garcia.<\/p>\n
