The Lady Tigers finished off District 15-5A play with a 4-0 shutout of Longview on Senior Night at Lady Tiger Field. On a night to honor senior players Jalissa Alvarez, BreAsia Hargrave, Carson Zachry and manager Khia Shaw, each of them played a major role in the win. Mount Pleasant finishes district play with an 8-4 record and will take the third seed from district into the playoffs which will take place next week. The Lady Tigers are 18-8 overall on the season.<\/p>\n
It was the seniors who took center stage and delivered in the first inning of the game. Carson Zachry singled, BreAsia Hargrave walked and Jalissa Alvarez delivered an RBI single to give the Lady Tigers an early 1-0 advantage. Freshman Ella Cross slapped a two-out, two-RBI single into center, scoring courtesy runner Genesis Roberson and Alvarez for a 3-0 lead.<\/p>\n
Carson Zachry extended the lead with a solo homerun off the scoreboard in the home half of the fourth for a 4-0 score. Zachry finished the night with two hits and a walk, while Hargrave walked twice. Cross and fellow freshman Conlee Zachry and Amariya Miller each singled in the game for Mount Pleasant. Hargrave notched the win inside the circle with a complete game, scattering six hits and striking out 10.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was such a great evening to get to honor these four ladies. Their hard work, dedication, and contributions over the last four seasons make such an impact not only to our program, but to our lives in general, ” said head coach Jeremy Tarrant. “Tonight was very emotional and to see each of them deliver throughout the game shows their heart for the game and what they have meant for our team and school. I\u2019m very proud to get to have coached each of them. They will continue to work hard and have success in life just as they have for our softball program.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Lady Tigers will more than likely face runner-up in District 16-5A Whitehouse sometime next week. Stay tuned to the MPISD website or Facebook page for updated playoff information.<\/p>\n
