The varsity boys team took the top three spots on the podium and ran away with the gold to qualify for the regional meet next week. The varsity girls&#8217; team also performed well, narrowly missing a bid to next week&#8217;s meet but putting up one of their best performances of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Gill Landaverde turned in the best time overall at 16:28.6 securing his only first place finish of the season. &#8220;It felt great to finish first,&#8221; said Landaverde. &#8220;This was my first number one finish since my first race in junior high so I&#8217;m happy that my last district race could end on top.&#8221; Landaverde&#8217;s brother, sophomore Gilberth Landaverde finished a close second turning in a time of 16:33.0 keeping the future of the Tiger cross country program bright. The Tigers&#8217; top three runners all finished within ten seconds of each other with sophomore Geovanni Calderon coming in third at 16:37.9. Junior Johnathan Sandate rounded out the top five with his time of 16:54.4. Other finishers for the Tigers were Pedro Robles (10th), Christopher Escobar (17th), and Juan Gonzalez (23rd).<\/p>\n<p>The varsity girls secured a third-place finish with senior Jennifer Soto narrowly missing a regional berth by two spots. Soto had the best finish for the Lady Tigers in twelfth place with a time of 21:49.1. Other finishers were Buendy Fraire (14th), Isabella Gonzalez (22nd), Brienna Gonzales (23rd), Abigail Retana (29th), Heslie Castanon (30th), and Leilani Jimenez (36th). The Lady Tigers&#8217; season comes to an end, but the future is promising as they will return four of their top seven runners for next season.<\/p>\n<p>The JV teams mirrored the results of their varsity counterparts with the boys finishing first and girls third. Juan Retana took the top spot with a time of 17:57.8 and the top finisher for the girls was Virginia Landaverde with a sixth-place finish and time of 15:06.9.<\/p>\n<p>The varsity boys&#8217; team will compete in the UIL Region II Championship in Dallas on Monday, November 9.
