{"id":5776,"date":"2019-05-08T14:12:55","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T19:12:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mpisd.net\/mphs\/?p=5776"},"modified":"2019-05-08T14:12:55","modified_gmt":"2019-05-08T19:12:55","slug":"mphs-uil-competes-in-regional-tournament-advances-8-to-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mpisd.net\/mphs\/mphs-uil-competes-in-regional-tournament-advances-8-to-state\/","title":{"rendered":"MPHS UIL Competes in Regional Tournament, Advances 8 to State"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p>The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Academic team competed at the Region 2 AAAAA UIL Academic Meet on April 12-13 at Prosper High School.\u00a0 Overall, MPHS is sending 8 students to the State meets.<\/p>\n<p>The Spelling team of seniors Rocio Hernandez and Annie Le, and sophomores Anna Harris and Taryn Thurman claimed the Regional Championship, advancing all four members to the state meet.\u00a0 Hernandez placed 3rd individually with Harris placing 5th.\u00a0 They are coached by Gina Crouch.<\/p>\n<p>In Journalism, senior Rebecca Yox claimed the Regional Championship in Editorial Writing and will advance to the state meet.\u00a0 Additionally, she placed 5th in Copy Editing and is a state alternate in that event.\u00a0 She is coached by John Whitten.<\/p>\n<p>In Speech, senior Ja\u2019Quacy Minter claimed the Regional Championship in Poetry and will advance to state.\u00a0 And in Informative Extemporaneous Speaking, freshman Connelly Cowan placed 3rd and will advance to state as well.\u00a0\u00a0 In Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking, sophomore Reid Pinckard placed 6th and is a state alternate.\u00a0 They are coached by Cody Morris.<\/p>\n<p>In Calculator Applications, senior Jose Liera placed 2nd and will advance to state.\u00a0 The Math team of Liera, David Barboza, Shelby Courreges, and Miguel Segura placed 3rd as a team.
