{"id":5298,"date":"2018-12-14T00:35:49","date_gmt":"2018-12-14T06:35:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mpisd.net\/mphs\/?p=5298"},"modified":"2018-12-14T00:35:49","modified_gmt":"2018-12-14T06:35:49","slug":"mphs-students-compete-at-texas-am-texarkana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mpisd.net\/mphs\/mphs-students-compete-at-texas-am-texarkana\/","title":{"rendered":"MPHS Students Compete at Texas A&#038;M\u2014Texarkana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twenty-two students from MPHS\u00a0recently competed in the 2018 High School Math Contest at Texas A&amp;M University \u2013 Texarkana.\u00a0 Students were able to compete in the areas of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus, based on the subject area in which they are currently enrolled.\u00a0 There were 81 contestants\u00a0representing 10 high schools at the contest.\u00a0 MPHS walked away with the Highest Overall Performer\u00a0award as well as 5 of the 15 places that were awarded.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Jose Liera was awarded the Highest Overall Performer\u00a0and also\u00a0received 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0place in Calculus.\u00a0 For\u00a0those accomplishments he\u00a0received a $500 scholarship to TAMU-T and $50 for 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0place.\u00a0 Junior Sam Pearson won 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0place in Pre-Calculus and\u00a0received $50.\u00a0 MPHS Geometry students, all freshmen, swept their\u00a0event with Mary Kait Heeren winning 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0place and $50, Taylor Hubbs 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0place and $30, and Katie Ochoa 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0place and $20.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in this event was made possible by a grant from the Mt.
