Mt. Pleasant High School seniors Stephanie Gonzalez and Harison Russell are the recipients of the Brandon Foster Memorial Scholarship.<\/p>\n
The scholarship was established by Kappa Pi in memory of Brandon Foster in 1985.\u00a0 Presenting the scholarship are Linda Blount of Kappa Pi and Suzanne Foster, Brandon\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n
Stephanie is the daughter of Maria Gonzalez and Samuel Gonzalez.\u00a0 She has been an active participant in many organizations at MPHS including Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), Student Council, Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE), Book Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA),<\/p>\n
She has participated in numerous health science classes in high school and has become CPR certified and CNA certified.\u00a0 She plans to attend Northeast Texas Community College in the fall and obtains her associates degree in health science and become a dietician.<\/p>\n
Harison is the son of Steve and Adina Russell.\u00a0 He is a four-year member of Future Farmers of America (FFA) where he served as chapter president his senior year and previously served as secretary, treasurer, and a district officer.\u00a0 He won many awards in FFA and received the State Lone Star Farmer Degree in 2017.\u00a0 He has also been a member of National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, HOSA, and Student Council.\u00a0 He has been a member of the Tiger Baseball team for 4 years and was Team Captain his senior year.\u00a0 He was selected the team Defensive Player of the Year in 2015.<\/p>\n
Harison has been a successful participant in numerous livestock shows.\u00a0 He has shown Limousin heifers at the Fort Worth Stock Show and the Houston Livestock show every year since 3rd grade.\u00a0 He exhibited Class Winners at the Fort Worth Stock Show in 2010, 2012, and 2014.\u00a0 He also exhibited Grand Champion or Reserve Champion steers and heifers at the Titus County Fair in 2015, 2016, and 2017.<\/p>\n
Ranked in the Top 10 Percent of his class, Harison plans to attend Texas A&M University in the Fall and major in Sports Management.<\/p>\n
