{"id":4207,"date":"2018-02-02T11:20:15","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T17:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mpisd.net\/mphs\/?p=4207"},"modified":"2018-02-02T11:20:15","modified_gmt":"2018-02-02T17:20:15","slug":"mphs-sweeps-district-cx-debate-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mpisd.net\/mphs\/mphs-sweeps-district-cx-debate-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"MPHS Sweeps District CX Debate Tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p>The Mount Pleasant High School Speech and Debate Team went to the District UIL Cross Examination Debate Tournament on Thursday, February 1 with one purpose in mind \u2013 to qualify for the State Meet in March.<\/p>\n<p>They did that and even more. The MPHS team swept the meet, going undefeated and taking the top three spots.<\/p>\n<p>Placing 1st was the team of senior Nathon Segovia and junior Audrey Courreges.\u00a0 Taking 2nd place was the team of seniors Anthony Preciado and Seth Robertson. Rounding out the MPHS sweep and placing third was the team of freshmen Ryan Sharp and Taryn Thurman.<\/p>\n<p>Nathon Segovia received the top speaker award of the District scoring a 89.5 out of a possible 90.<\/p>\n<p>Head Debate Coach Cody Morris after the tournament said, \u201cIt is amazing to get to work with a group of such talented, hard working students.\u00a0 It is no easy task for all three teams to go undefeated in tournament rounds.
