Pleasant High School Calculator Applications team (Carlos Barboza, Daniel Hernandez, Husban Shahid and Sanum Shahid) and Math team (David Barboza, Daniel Hernandez, Jose Liera and Husban Shahid) both took first place at the District 16-5A UIL Academic Meet and have advanced to regional competition at Prosper High School on April 7-8, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Spelling and Vocabulary team (Rocio Hernandez, Annie Le, Ilse Vargas and Itzamari Vargas) and the Current Events team (Jacob Baker, Enrique Martinez, Clarissa Santos and Nathon Segovia) both advanced to Regionals as Wild Card teams.<\/p>\n<p>Six students advanced to the Regional Meet in individual categories.<\/p>\n<p>Audrey Courreges advanced in Persuasive Speaking. Caleb Huggins advanced in Computer Science. Nancy Ibarra advanced in Informative Speaking. Allie Norfleet advanced in Editorial Writing. Yaritza Romero advanced in Prose. Nathon Segovia, who advanced as a member of the Current Events team, also advanced in Science.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled that we have 19 students advancing to the Regional Meet,\u201d said MPHS Academic UIL Coordinator Regina Crouch. \u201cThey have all worked hard to get to this point. I know that they and their coaches and are working hard to prepare for regional competition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many students earned individual medals in addition to the team medals they won.
