Eight Mount Pleasant High School Electrical Trades students who competed at the Regional Skills USA competition in Waco are headed to the State Competition in Corpus Christi April 6-9. Two of the students took first place in their individual contests while five advanced with their Electrical Exhibits.<\/p>\n

Junior Chris Memije placed 1st in Construction Wiring and sophomore Nicholas Ramirez placed 4th. Sophomore Anthony Tejeda earned 1st Place in Action Skills. Both Memije and Tejeda will compete against other students from across the state of Texas in their individual events. Ramirez will also attend the state SkillsUSA contest.<\/p>\n

The MPHS Electrical Program took two electrical exhibits to contest at Texas State Technical College in Waco.
\nThe Electrical exhibit designed and built by junior Sergio Flores, senior Brandon Steinmetz and junior Hugo Valdez won “Best of Show” while the exhibit designed and built by sophomores Eloy Castillo and Giovanni Hipolito won a blue ribbon. Both exhibits will journey to Corpus Christi in April.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so proud of these students,\u201d said Electrical Trades instructor Tim Davis. \u201cThese contests are very competitive and always very close. Our students all worked very hard both during and after school to prepare for the competition and it paid off. Most of these students are 10th and 11th graders. That\u2019s an accomplishment.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThe community plays such a vital role in the success of our students. I want to thank Wholesale Electric, Johnny Webster, Elliott Electric, Jason Jetton, EDH Electric, Erman Hensel, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Henry, Grayrock Landscape & Irrigation and Chet Zachry for donating electrical materials for our students to use in building their electrical projects. I also want to thank Big Tex Trailers for donating the use of a trailer to carry our students\u2019 exhibits to contest in Waco, Texas,\u201d Davis added.<\/p>\n<\/div>
