AshLynn Burns was recently selected as the Mt. Pleasant High School DAR Good Citizen.\u00a0 She is a senior at MPHS and is the daughter of Todd and Vickie Burns.<\/p>\n
Leadership is a characteristic of a good citizen that AshLynn possesses as noted by her participation in athletic training for the past four years where she was awarded the Trainer of the Year Award as a sophomore.\u00a0 She has also been a four-year member of the Student Council, serving as Treasurer her junior year and President her senior year.\u00a0 In addition, AshLynn is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and HOSA.<\/p>\n
AshLynn was chosen as the Rotary Student of the Month for October and was selected to represent MPHS at the Hugh O\u2019Brian Youth Leadership forum during her sophomore year.<\/p>\n
Service to the community is another important quality of a good citizen.\u00a0 AshLynn exemplifies that quality by her service at the local food pantry, Titus County Cares and at her church\u2019s annual Thanksgiving dinner for families in the community who might not otherwise have a Thanksgiving meal.\u00a0 She also contributes to our elementary school programs by helping with Trunk or Treat, Halloween safety, and after school arts and crafts.<\/p>\n
AshLynn is an active member of Trinity Baptist Church and serves as a cell group leader for her youth bible study.<\/p>\n
The Martha Laird Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors the DAR Good Citizen program in our area.\u00a0 This contest is designed to honor an outstanding young person in a high school\u2019s senior class who demonstrates the four qualities of a DAR Good Citizen:\u00a0 Dependability, Service, Leadership, and Patriotism.<\/p>\n
Being selected as the MPHS Good Citizen provides AshLynn the opportunity to participate in the scholarship portion of the program at the local Chapter level.\u00a0 The scholarship contest consists of two parts.\u00a0 Part I consists of the student describing how she has tried to manifest the qualities of a good citizen.\u00a0 Part II is a patriotic essay administered under the supervision of a faculty member.\u00a0 Each contest entry is evaluated by independent, non-DAR judges.\u00a0 The winning entry is advanced through state and national levels of judging.<\/p>\n
