Literally translated as “Flights of the Eggs” the objective of the contest was to build a craft allowing an egg travel as far as possible, without damage, when thrown off the stadium bleachers. Last year the contest expanded allowing students from all MPISD campuses to enter. And this year, the MPHS art classes added chalk drawings that also helped as a measuring guide.

Rules for the contest included a $6.00 maximum budget, a one meter maximum size in any dimension, and that the egg must be visible and able to be removed with twenty seconds of landing. High School students were required to submit detailed engineering drawings, a final budget accounting, a company name, the name of the eggcraft, and a company motto with a special request for egg puns.

Some eggs landed safely, while others… cracked under the pressure. In the elementary division, Frances Corprew Elementary School took top honors for the second year in a row. The eggcraft built by The Eggcellent Besties (Savannah George, Brynli Powell, and Collier Watkins) soared 29 feet. There were no other survivors and/or they flew for negative distance due to the wind.

In the middle school division, Flying Squirrel (Tate Latiolais, Liam Litke, Cruz Paddy) soared 51 feet. Egg Invasion (D’Royce Evans) was 2nd with 31 feet. And 3rd was a tie at 16 feet for Alien Egg (Christian Martinez and Kevin Paloblanco) and Last Minute Mess (Nelly Duran).

Representing Mount Pleasant Junior High, Jake Jones’s Overboard Orbs egg was scrambled. But as the eggsclusive entrant, Jones placed 1st for the junior high.

And from Mount Pleasant High School, Egga (Christian Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez, Braelon Tillman) placed 1st at 92 feet. Jack Jones, MPHS Engineering instructor, came in 2nd overall at 84 feet. And Eggity (Omar Castaneda, Sandy Garcia, Logan Ritchie, James Sund) was 3rd at 74 feet. Flying Squirrel from Wallace Middle School placed 4th overall, ahead of multiple high school teams.

Mount Pleasant High School offers a four-year program in Engineering including Principles of Applied Engineering at the freshman level, Engineering Design and Presentation I and II, and Practicum in STEM.
