Mayra Villarruel was selected by ACT, Inc. as the Wendy\u2019s High School Heisman school winner for Mount Pleasant High School.<\/p>\n
Mayra is the daughter of MaryAnn & Julio Villarruel. She is a 4-year member of the Varsity Soccer team, where she was selected Co-Captain for her sophomore and junior seasons.\u00a0 She was chosen for 1st team All District Soccer as a sophomore and a junior and 2nd team All District as a freshman.\u00a0 Mayra has also participated in cross-country and track.\u00a0 She serves as Secretary of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of FBLA, and Secretary of the Astronomy Club, and is a past member of United By One.<\/p>\n
In addition to her extracurricular activities at school, Mayra is involved with Titus County Cares and the Backpacks for Kids program.\u00a0 She is a member of the youth groups at St. Michael\u2019s Catholic Church and Greenhill United Methodist Church.<\/p>\n
The leadership award-honorees chosen by ACT are well-rounded young men and women who excel in learning, performing, and leading in the classroom, on the field, and in the community.\u00a0 Students were judged based on their academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, community-leadership, and involvement in various extracurricular activities during grades 9 through 11.<\/p>\n
