Cassidy Russell was recently selected as the Mt. Pleasant High School DAR Good Citizen.\u00a0 She is a senior at MPHS and is the daughter of Larry and Karen Russell.<\/p>\n
The Martha Laird Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors the DAR Good Citizen program in our area.\u00a0 This contest is designed to honor an outstanding young person in a high school\u2019s senior class who demonstrates the four qualities of a DAR Good Citizen:\u00a0 Dependability, Service, Leadership, and Patriotism.<\/p>\n
Cassidy holds various leadership roles.\u00a0 She is currently Tiger Doll 1st Lieutenant and previously served as Junior Lieutenant and Sergeant.\u00a0 She is also co-leader of a youth Bible study group and placed 2nd in FFA Leadership Skills in Public Relations.<\/p>\n
Service to the community and patriotism are also important aspects of a good citizen.\u00a0 Cassidy exemplifies that characteristic by her participation in the Salvation Army Bell Ringer program for the past 5 years and her support for the local blood donor program.\u00a0 She has also helped with the Food 4 Kids Backpack program, canned food drives, Coats for Kids and has taken part in Carry the Load, Relay for Life, and local Veteran\u2019s Day programs.<\/p>\n
In addition to being a 4-year member of Tiger Dolls, Cassidy is also on the MPHS Softball team where she has lettered for 3 years.\u00a0 She is a member of NHS, NTHS, Student Council, FFA, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at NTCC, and she previously played volleyball and was a member of TPSA.<\/p>\n
Cassidy was selected as MPHS All School Girl, Rotary Student of the Month, Outstanding Sophomore Tiger Doll, and Freshman Football Sweetheart.\u00a0 In softball, she was awarded Academic Player of the Year, Academic All District both sophomore and junior years, and All District Infield Honorable Mention.\u00a0 She has also had success exhibiting her market steer at the Titus County Fair by receiving 1st in class this year and 2nd in class last year.<\/p>\n
Being selected as the MPHS Good Citizen provides Cassidy the opportunity to participate in the scholarship portion of the program at the local Chapter level.\u00a0 Each contest entry is evaluated by independent, non-DAR judges.\u00a0 The winning entry is advanced through state and national levels of judging.<\/p>\n
