Pleasant Tribune<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Texas Elementary Principals &amp; Supervisors Association (TEPSA) recently recognized Amy Stewart, assistant principal at E. C. Brice Elementary School, as its 2019 National Assistant Principal of the Year for Texas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t feel deserving of this award,\u201d said Stewart who has been an assistant principal at both Frances Corprew Elementary School and Brice. \u201cI think there are a lot of awesome assistant principals out there, a lot of awesome administrators. Working at Corprew and here, I know that it takes a team \u2013 you have to have a very solid team in place. If you don\u2019t have that strong administrative team, it\u2019s hard to do what you have to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stewart earned her education degree from Oklahoma University, got her masters in counseling from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, and has been in education for 20 years. Before becoming an assistant principal, she has been a fourth-grade teacher, taught junior high math, and been a counselor at the primary school, elementary, and junior high levels.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what was the best part of her job, she said without hesitation: \u201cThe kids; one hundred percent. I know that sounds kind of clich\u00e9, but it really is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have some great kids and great parents here,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I feel lucky to be in a community where there is a lot of community support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The TEPSA award recognizes assistant principals for their commitment to student learning as evidenced by exceptional school leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have an awesome staff,\u201d said Stewart. \u201cI\u2019ve been at Corprew, and I\u2019ve been here, [and] there are teachers on both campuses that will do whatever it takes. They\u2019re getting here early, they\u2019re staying late, they\u2019re meeting with parents, they\u2019re going out and doing home visits. I know this without a doubt \u2013 our teachers would do anything for their kids up here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wake up every day and look forward to coming to work,\u201d she added. \u201cI love being around the kids; I like seeing them learn, and watching them grow. I feel blessed to be working at Mount Pleasant ISD and E.C Brice.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Tracy Farr Mt.
