ASVAB – November 6, 2009
The Armed Services Aptitude Battery is given to juniors and seniors in the fall of the year to students interested in the military. The ASVAB is administered on the high school campus at no cost to the student. This test is optional.
PLAN – September 24, 2009 Registration Deadline: September 1, 2009
The Plan test is a “pre-ACT” test that helps tenth and eleventh grade students build a solid foundation for future academic and career success. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years. The PLAN is a predictor of success on the ACT assessment. The Plan is administered on the high school campus to any interested student.
PSAT – October 14, 2010 Registration Deadline: September 22, 2010
The PSAT (Preliminary SAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a co-sponsored program by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The PSAT/NMSQT measures the critical reading, math problem solving, and writing skills that have been developed throughout the student’s life. It does not measure things like creativity and motivation, and it does not recognize those special talents that may be important to colleges. The PSAT is administered to MPHS students in October of each year. Junior students taking the test will be attempting to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. Freshmen and sophomores taking the test will be practicing for the junior year.
Anyone interested in taking the above test/s can contact the counselor’s office at 903-575-2020 for information on the procedures to register for exams.
COLLEGE COURSES: DUAL/CONCURRENT ENROLLEMENT
Concurrent Enrollment Classes:
The Concurrent Enrollment Program allows high school students the opportunity to enroll in college-level courses and to earn high school as well as college credit for the completed coursework. The program provides a continuum of learning from high school to college for those students who choose to pursue a post-secondary degree or certificate after high school graduation. This continuum will increase opportunities for students to progress through their programs of study at an accelerated pace.
Credit may be given in a content area or as an elective to fulfill graduation requirements and to gain college credit. Credit for successfully completed college courses will be earned in one-half credit increments.
The student will receive a numerical grade equivalency as follows:
A = 95 B = 85 C = 77 D = 72
Students and/or parents assume full financial responsibility for the cost of concurrent enrollment classes. This includes tuition, fees, books, materials, and any other related costs. Students and/or parents must provide transportation. MPISD does not fund the cost of the courses. Students wishing to enroll at Northeast Texas Community College may apply for the Concurrent Enrollment Scholarship. Scholarship applications are available in the counselor’s office.
