History of the School

Mrs. Frances Corprew for whom the school is named, taught in the Mount Pleasant school system a total of 14 years, and operated a private kindergarten for an additional 10 years. Mrs. Corprew was a native of Bonham, Texas. She was born March 1, 1895. She died June 27, 1961. She was educated in public schools in Bonham, Texas and took her B. A. degree at Texas College in Tyler, Texas. Her teaching career began in Fannin County, where she taught both rural and city schools. Following this experience, she went to Tyler to teach in Texas College, and followed this with a stint in Smith County rural schools. She then moved back to Mount Pleasant, where she finished her teaching experience.

About the School

Frances Corprew Elementary School is a student centered, Accelerated School that serves grades Kindergarten through 4th grade. One third of our students have limited English proficiency. Our student population is culturally diverse, which mirrors our growing community population. We have 35 faculty members, and 25 additional staff members serving the children of our campus. The principal of our school is Mrs. LaWanda McCowan and the Assistant Principal is Elida Lopez.
