Above and Beyond Awards: Awards were presented to Brenda
Harkrider (Sims), Amy House and Laura Lesher (CLC) and Kim Newman
(CSS).
Student Recognitions: MPJHS Choir Director Roy Benson
introduced the three Jr. High students who qualified for the All
Region Middle School Choir: Benji Boyd, Garret Lyons and Emily
Peacock. MPHS Choir Director Luke Dean introduced the MPHS students
who qualified for All-Region Treble Choir: Brenda Lozano, Mildred
Reyes, Katherine McCarver, and Lucero Bello. MPHS Cross Country
Coaches Lorand Csoma and Joey Fisher introduced the Cross Country
Team members who competed at Regional competition.
Board Business:
•Approved overnight trips for MPHS Cross Country to Regional Meet in Arlington (Nov. 6-7); MPHS FFA to Fort Worth Livestock Show for heifers (Jan. 21-25, 2010) and lambs (Jan. 28-231, 2010).
•Discussed the District Mission, Vision Statement and Beliefs. Recommended changes will be made and the final document brought to the Board for approval in December.
•Business Manager Stacie Thompson discussed the October 2009 Financial Statement, current ADA, and grants the district has received this. These total $11,958,610.
•Awarded the bid for Property Casualty Insurance for 2009-2010 to the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). They had the low bid and have served the district well in the past, including the repair of flood damage to the Corprew library and the replacement of library books and supplies.
Superintendent’s Report:
•TEA TAKS Accountability Appeal: Superintendent Terry Myers reported that the appeal to TEA to raise MPISD to a Recognized status based in 4 Exemplary campuses and 2 Recognized campuses and one Academically Acceptable campus had been denied. Myers said he hoped that the information in the appeal will have an impact on how ratings are assigned in the future.
•Building and maintenance projects in the district for the balance of the bond funds. A portion of the funds will be used to repair awnings and increase parking at the CDC and CLC and to fix portions of the Fieldhouse. The remainder, which must be allocated by April 2010 and spent by April 2011, will be used for remodeling the old ESS building in front of the High School and other projects around the district
