Titus County Shared Services
Presentation: Director Marilyn Logan updated the board on
geographic reach and service level of the Special Education
Services. She pointed out that the district is unique in how they
deal with special education students. She introduced Casey Simmers,
a MPHS Honor Grad and current MPHS teacher, who was helped by
Special Education Services when she fell behind because of
illness.
Media Honor Roll Awards: The Board
presented certificates to Pat Rovell of Channel 36, represented by
Mary Rovell, and Jesus ”Jessie “Carrillo of LaSuperK, naming them
to the TASB Media Honor roll. Both were honored for their longtime
support of the district, it’s students and staff.
Board Business:
•Approved naming Kenny Rollins, County Extension Agent for
Agriculture, and Linda Ferrell, CEA for FCS, as adjunct MPISD
Faculty members and designated 4-H activities as approved
extra-curricular activities.
•Approved overnight trips for MPHS Cheer to Universal
Cheerleaders Association Camp in Grapevine, TX (August 2-5) and for
MPHS Student Council to Washington, D.C. (July 7-10, 2010).
•Approved the Student Code of Conduct for 2009-2010.
•Approved the list of Appraisers for Certified Teachers and
the calendar of certified teacher appraisals.
•Approved the 2009-2010 District Improvement Plan.
•Approved a Proposed tax rate of $1.174 to fund the
2009-2010 Budget. This represents a $.01 decrease over last year’s
rate.
•Scheduled the Public Hearing for the 2009-2010 School
Budget and Proposed Tax Rate for Monday, August 24 at 5 p.m. in the
CSS Board Room.
Bids and Quotes
•Approved the bid from Coca-Cola to be the Exclusive
Beverage Supplier for the District. Coca-Cola will supply recycle
bins for plastic bottles for district use.
•Approved the bid from Texas Monarch Management Group as the
provider of Student Accident Insurance.
Reports:
District Accountability Ratings: Assistant Superintendent
Bruce Gearing provided a preliminary report on the District
Accountability Ratings. Based on preliminary results, the final
report will not be available from TEA until the end of July, MPISD
should have 4 Exemplary campuses (Brice, Corprew, Fowler and Sims),
2 Recognized campuses (Wallace and MPHS) and one Academically
Acceptable campus (MPJH).
