April Board of Trustees Meeting

    The Board presented Above and Beyond Awards to Josefina Ramirez, Brenda Daniels, Leca Daniels, Andrea Sanchez and Robert Meeks (CDC); Maria Rodriguez and Barbara Case (MPHS); Susy Wynn and Ana Decious (CSS); and, Kaye Nelms and Judi Saxton (ESS)
Presentations:
    Superintendent Terry Myers presented Sims Principal Mike Lide a plaque for Annie Sims Elementary being named a Distinguished Performance School
    Student Recognitions: Public Information Officer Judi Saxton introduced MPHS teachers and organization sponsors for student introductions:
    Citizen’s Bee sponsor Mike Warlick: Danny Johnson, 1st in Region 8 advancing to State, Daniel Ramirez, 3rd in Region 8.
    Academic Dean Shirley Peterson: Texas Student Achievement Award winners Isabel Caldwell, Karson Kent, Stephen Julian, Brian Knight, Hannah peacock, Tessie Sharp and Paul Yox, sophomores scoring in top 16.5% of PLAN testers; and, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Ambassador, Katherine Teinert.
    Tennis Coach Judy Coffey: Mixed Doubles Team of Kallie Kent and Jesse Rawlings advanced to Regionals, and Karson Kent and Marla Terrell, 3rd in District.
    Art teacher Jerry Boyd: NTCC Student Art Show Scholarship winners Alejandro Martinez (Best in Show) and Domingo Ramirez, Jr. (First Place) and State VASE Top Score recipients Martinez, Keziah Sanchez, Morgan Luedke and Nicole Fipps.
    FLBA Sponsors Jackie Scoggins and Dona Davis: Samantha Myers, who placed 3rd at State and advanced to Nationals in Public Speaking.
    Girls Soccer Coach Jeromy McMurray: All District winners.
    Boys Soccer Coach Jason Mayfield: 9th and 10th grade Soccer team members.
    MPHS Principal Brian McAdams: MPJHS Art teacher Tania Lugo who was named NTCC Alumnus of the Year.

Lide, loveless and Kindergarten Class

Annie Sims Elementary School: Principal Mike Lide introduced Kindergarten teacher Julie Loveless and her class for a presentation on Recycling in honor of Earth Day. Students read essays they had written and sang several songs.
    Retiring Trustee Royce Carr presented a PowerPoint highlighting changes in the district in the time he has served on the Board. Presentation focused on enrollment, finances, facilities, and student achievements.
Board Business:
•Approved overnight trips for MPHS Tennis to Denton for the Regional Tournament (April 20-22); MPHS Track to Denton for Regional Meet (May 1-2).
•Approved the submission of the Even Start Family Literacy Grant
Bids and Quotes
•Approved Miscellaneous Groceries, Food and Catering Vendors for 2009-2010.
•Approved extending the School Photography contract of Shutter Snapper
Reports
    TAKS: Assistant Superintendent Bruce Gearing reported the preliminary 1st Round Math TAKS scores for grades 5 and 8.
    Gearing also reported on Curriculum and Course Changes for MPHS and MPJHS including the introduction of a new course for MPHS seniors.
