September Board of Trustees Meeting
September 22, 2008
Above and Beyond Awards were presented to Becki Cromer,
Renea Freeman and Pam Maples (Annie Sims)
Mount Pleasant High School: Debbie Thompson, CATE Director,
presented results from the2007-2008 Technical Skill
Attainment tests for the MPHS Career and Technical Ed.
Students. Last year, 113 MPHS students took state or industry
recognized certification or licensure tests. Of those, 93 or
(82.3%) passed their test: 39 passed the Electrical Trades
Certification and 18 passed the Pharmacy Tech. test. A number
passed the State Cosmetology test as well. The department's goal is
to double the number passing in 2008-2009. Principal David Davis
discussed the ways the school is reaching out to seniors who
have yet to pass one or more of the graduation-level TAKS
tests. They are holding tutoring sessions early in the morning,
after school and on Saturdays. They are also looking at holding
sessions at alternative locations. The goal is to have 100% of
seniors pass all 4 required TAKS tests so that they may all "walk
across the stage" at graduation if they meet all other requirements
for graduation.
