Above and Beyond Awards
Above and Beyond awards were presented to Jan Abbott and Susan
Arnold (Brice); Diane Ferguson (MPJHS), Shelley Derrick, Nigel
Boyles and Kelly Cowan (MPHS); Lynn Lovell, Juanita VanHooser,
Carmen Shavers and Linda Zepeda (CLC), Krystin Whitehead, Johnthan
Thomas and Gloria Morgan (21st CCLC), Milton Jones (CSS), and,
Antonio Ayala, Patrick Blair, Primitivo Cespedes, Wayne Dennis,
Cesar Garcia, Daniel King, Russell Luck, Hilario Martin, Albert
McGregor, Arturo Munoz, Frederick Nixon, Charles Riley, Viviano
Rocha, Domingo Rodarte, Jose Rodarte, Tommy Thomas, Frankie Vaught,
Roy Wiley, Mike Worrell and Carlos Vargas (Maintenance).
May Board Election: The Board canvassed the results of the
May 10, 2008 MPISD School Board election.
Oath of Office: Sheila Eakins administered the oath of
office to Mary Hearron and Joey Mayfield.
Election of Board Officers: The Board elected by acclamation Mary
Hearron as President, Mark Traylor as Vice President and Buddy Blue
as Secretary.
Recognition of Retired Educators: District Public
Information Officer Dr. Judi Saxton introduced Yvonne Hampton, Ray
Fortner and William C. Love as this year's Retired Educators of the
Year. The three were chosen by the District Site Based committee in
honor of their many years of service to the students of MPISD. Each
received a marble apple to commemorate the occasion.
Recognition of MPHS Class of 2008 Top Ten students: The Board recognized Valedictorian Clara Ramirez, Salutatorian Jennifer Traylor, Jaynee Guest (3), Lindsey Tigert (4), Robert Farr (5), Brooke Taylor (6), Stephen Graham (7), Sky Horton (8), Matt Pearson (9) and Shannon Payne (10).
Recognition of MPHS Art Students: MPHS art teacher Gerald Boyd introduced his top art students to the Board. The students were winners at the recent NTCC Student Art Scholarship Competition. The students brought along some of their art projects to show the Board.
Community Learning Center: Jeannie Pruitt and some of the Even Start students shared their Family Memories and Traditions booklet with the Board. Several of the students had recently completed their GEDs.
Board Business
•Approved overnight trip for MPHS FFA to the State Convention in Lubbock (July 14-18)
•Accepted the bid from W.T. Cox Subscription, Inc., for periodical subscriptions for the 2008-2009 school year. The bid was $3,739.73. The company gives the district an 18.5% discount.
