Fowler Explore GT Students Meet Army Vet
During this past Christmas holiday
season, Explore GT students at Vivian Fowler Elementary School
wrote, made and sent Christmas Cards to United States troops
stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan to show their support. When
students returned to school in January, they received a Christmas
card from Army Reserve Trooper Chris Mulch thanking them.
When Mulch returned to the states after
his mission was completed, he contacted the Fowler students'
teacher Linda Bishop to say he wanted to come thank the students
personally for their support. That visit happened April 18.
Trooper Mulch arrived on campus dressed in
combat uniform. He explained that his 12-month mission in
Afghanistan was to train troops and to be a humanitarian advocate
to the people of Afghanistan.
Using slides he had taken overseas, Mulch talked about the geography and culture of Afghanistan. He also showed students garments made and worn by the Afghani people. He also answered questions from the students.
Students met Mulch with a standing ovation and gave him a signed red, white and blue Thank You Banner of at the end of his presentation. Trooper Chris Mulch lives in Mount Vernon with his wife Jennifer, and his five children.
