MPHS Students Nominated KTBB Scholastic All Stars
Mount Pleasant High School’s Elizabeth
Jenay Stephens and Latyric (Tye Tye) R'mone Lewis have been honored
with a nomination as KTBB Scholastic All-Stars. The program,
administered by KTBB's Sports Director and well-known area sports
authority David Smoak, honors male and female student athletes from
East Texas area high schools who have excelled in the classroom, in
sports, in school related activities and community activities.
A committee of teachers, coaches,
counselors and administrators nominated the two for their academic
achievement, athletic talent and exceptional commitment to their
school and communities.
“We are pleased to nominate Elizabeth and
Tye-Tye for this award," said MPHS Principal David Davis. "It was a
difficult decision because we had so many students who met the
qualifications. These two just rose to the top."
Stephens is the daughter of Jeannie
Stephens. She has played on the Lady Tiger Softball team for three
years and the Volleyball team for two. She has participated in
Powerlifting for three years as well. She is a member of the
National Honor Society and has served as an FFA officer for four
years. She has been a member of National Technical Honor Society,
Net Ole and Tiger Dolls. Stephens is listed in Who's Who Among
American High School Students and was received the Athletic
Heavyweight Award in 2005-06. She is also active in her church.
Stephens plans to attend Northeast Texas
Community College in the fall. After NTCC, she plans to transfer to
Texas A & M College Station to study Veterinary Medicine and
then further her studies at Louisiana State University. Her goal is
top open her own [private practice after graduating.
Lewis is the son of Debral Lewis. He has
participated in Tiger Football and Basketball. He is president of
the National Technical Honor Society and is a member of the
National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and the
UIL Accounting Team. He is active in his church youth group and its
Angel Food Ministry. Community service activities include Junior
Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army bell ringer and the fundraisers
for Muscular Dystrophy and the Hospice Ball. His awards include the
Academic Blankets in Recordkeeping and Introduction to
Construction, 1st and 2nd All District Basketball Teams, and the
Lady Mujaji Scholarship.
Lewis plans to major in accounting and
minor in mathematics. He long-term goal is to become a Certified
Public Accountant (CPA) and return to Mount Pleasant to open his
own firm and give back to the community.
Members of the KTBB Scholastic All Star
Elite Teams will be announced in May.
