CATE House Nearing Completion

For the tenth year in a row, the Construction Building Trades classes at Mount Pleasant High School have been building a house on the MPHS campus. That three-bedroom, two-full bathroom house is nearly complete.
"This year's 1344 square foot house is larger than the previous houses we have built," said James Blundell, the course instructor. "We added 8 feet to the length and distributed the extra space throughout the house. That gave us room for a nice dining area with an 8-foot bow window. There is a walk-in closet in the master bathroom and a complete master bathroom. The added space makes this a much more livable home."

The construction of the three-bedroom house offers the high school building trades students the opportunity to apply the skills they learn in the classroom to an actual project, Blundell explained. The project also offers real-world experience to the MPHS Electrical Trades students, who do the electrical wiring of the house under the direction of their instructor Tim Davis.
"We are excited to be able to again offer this real-world experience to our students," said MPHS Principal David Davis. "This is something concrete where they can see the direct application of what they are learning in the classroom."

The house will be ready for auction in May.
"Several folks have expressed their interest in bidding on the house," Blundell said. "We will try to arrange an open house before it goes up for auction so those who would like to can view the house."
"I am extremely proud of the job that my students have done this year and I think it will make someone a very nice home," he added.
