Above and Beyond awards were presented to Jennifer Erwin, Debbie McClenan, Kay Owens, Amy Eubanks, Jennifer Wommack and Marco Gonzalez (Brice); Elizabeth Crocker, Beth McKelvey and Melissa Mehle (MPHS); Camillia Traylor and Teresa Young (21st Century); and Faye Jennings, Kathy Robertson, Teresa Smith, Janet Thomas, Mary Vaught, Pam Jennings and Ginger Fuller (MPISD Food Service).

E.C. Brice Elementary School: Students from Brice gave a presentation on the history of the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag. Boy Scouts from Troop 209 presented the Colors and led the pledges to the flags.

Brice Faculty members Susan Arnold, Cathy Jones and Amy Eubanks from the Brice Vocabulary Committee described the school's efforts to teach students new vocabulary words each week.
Career and Technology Department: In celebration of Career and Technology Education Month, representatives from the MPHS CATE Department presented ferns, caps and canvas bags to members of the Board and MPISD Administrators.
Board Business
•Approved the Local Board of Trustees Certification for Textbooks for 2008.
•Adopted enVisionMATH as the supplemental math textbook for grades K-4. The book will be used in addition to the Sharon Wells' Math Curriculum.
•Approved overnight trips for MPHS Tiger Dolls to Dallas for a Dance Convention (Feb. 22-24); for MPHS DECA to the Texas DECA Competition in Corpus Christi (Feb. 27-Martch 2); for the MPHS UIL Math/Science Teams to the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association State Meet (March 14-16); for MPHS FFA to the Houston Stock Show for the Judging Contest (March 8-9), Steers (March 9-13), and Pigs, Heifers and Gilts (March 14-22); for FFA to the Stephenville Stock Show (March 26-27); for MPHS SkillsUSA to the State Contest in Corpus Christi (April 1-6); and, for MPHS HOSA to the State Leadership Conference in Austin (April 9-12).
•Changed the date of the May Board meeting to Monday, May 19, 2008.
•Approved the renewal of three innovative courses: Parenting I & II, Personal Finance and Sports and Entertainment Marketing. The courses are offered through Career and Technology at MPHS.
•Approved an order calling a board election to be held May 10, 2008 for Place 3 and Place 4, the seats currently held by Joey Mayfield and Dr. Mary Hearron.
•Adopted a resolution approving joint elections with the Tri Special Utility District, the City of Mount Pleasant, the Titus County Hospital District, Harts Bluff ISD, Northeast Texas Community College and MPISD.
•Approved a contract for election services with the Titus County Election Administrator.
•Approved Local Policy Update 82 as proposed by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). The policies affected concern, non-renewal of a superintendent's contract, employee conflict of interest issues, student rights and responsibilities, and distribution of non-school literature.
•Approved the continuation application for the Even Start Grant for the 2008-2009 school year. Even Start is one of the programs offered at the Community Learning Center.
•Approved the MPHS 2008-2009 Course Guide Manual.
•Approved the purchase of 75 computers for the MPHS CATE Department from ComputerLand for $73,769.20.
•Approved the purchase of 10 laptops and 17 desktop computers from Dell for MPHS for a total cost of $29,936.90.
Reports:
Superintendent Terry Myers reported that the district is working with the architect to develop final plans for the restroom/concession facility at the district Tennis Courts. The district is also working with the architect and a consulting engineer to fix the problem with the eyewashes in the science labs at MPHS.
Myers reported that Board members are all current in required training hours.
Assistant Superintendent Bruce Gearing reported that the Mizuni system is up and running much sooner than expected. Company representatives demonstrated the system last Thursday. There are a number of issues still being worked out. The system should be ready for use by administrators and teachers by the start of the 2008-2009 school year.
