Above and Beyond Awards
Above and Beyond awards were presented to David Forest (Fowler), Sofia Henderson, Esmeralda Hernandez and Carol Vandiver (Corprew); Pat Weber and Maria Flores (Annie Sims); Whitney Hall and Santiaga Cassio (21st Century). Titus County Shared Services presented Above and Beyond Awards to Henry Sharp (MPJHS) and Mary Gail Karkoska (Wallace). The Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Committee presented Above and Beyond Awards to Kathy Zwernemann, Shelly Jones, Tim David, Susy Whitten, Jim Alston, Jerry Boyd, Jonna Ditto, Kristy Smart and Suzie Hall from Mount Pleasant High School and Van Bowen of Mount Pleasant Junior High.
Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic Committee: Certificates of appreciation were presented to Principal David Davis, Athletic Secretary Ferol Holcomb, Chief of Police Hayes Lesher, Human Resources Director Debra Malone, Public Information Officer Judi Saxton, Food Service Director Laura Stewart, Athletic Director Jimmy Thompson and Maintenance Director Mike Worrell. The Board also presented a certificate of appreciation to Superintendent Terry Myers, also a member of the Bowl Committee.
Corprew Elementary School: Principal LaWanda McCowan introduced students who presented a portion of their Christmas program, "Christmas Around the World". The program will air in its entirety on Channel 36 Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Lady Mujaji Presentation: LaWyanda Prince presented plaques for two picnic tables built by Jim Alston's CATE class, to Corprew Principal LaWanda McCowan. Members of the club have adopted Corprew and will also serve as mentors to students there.
Board Business
•Approved overnight trips for MPHS Choir students to All State Choir Auditions in Dallas (Jan. 4-5), for FFA to the Fort Worth Stock Show (Jan, 16-21), for Skills-USA to District Contest in Waco (Jan. 31-Feb. 2), for MPHS UIL One Act play cast and crew to a workshop in Nacogdoches February 22023, for the FFA to the Houston Livestock Show March 4-6, for the Junior High History Department to Petit Jean, Arkansas May 22-23 and for the MPHS Varsity Tigers Basketball Team to a tournament in Lufkin December 27-29.
•Awarded the bid for Library Books to multiple vendors. All vendors who submitted bids offered either discounts or free shipping or both. Librarians will be able to compare prices before ordering books.
Reports:
Superintendent Terry Myers reported that when the current round of construction projects are 100% complete, the books would be closed. Any money remaining will be allocated to campus mechanical work and restroom facilities at the tennis courts. Remaining funds after those two projects will be spent on upgrades to the MPHS auditorium, including exterior cleaning, lighting upgrades and sound system upgrades.
Myers also reported on Board training hours. All Board members have completed all required training.
